Lee Roy Selmon's life is one of football scholarship, family work and involvement in the community. Selmon is the youngest of children of Lucious Selmon and Jessie Selmon, who took care of him at the farm they owned in Eufala. In football, he played with three of his brothers from Oklahoma. The three brothers were all All-America. Lucious Jr. Dewey, Lee Roy, and Lucious Jr. Dewey started the 1973 season. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's best lineman. He was awarded two championships as well as 31-1-1 during his three years as Oklahoma's main man. The National Football Foundation named him as a Scholar-Athlete three times time in the year 1975. Selmon received his bachelor's degree in education. Lee Roy dedicated ten volunteer time per week throughout the college. In Tampa, he played for the Buccaneers for nine seasons, and eventually became an all-pro. He also began his career in the field of business. His first job was as an Account Relation Officer at First Florida Bank, Tampa. He has worked in the past for Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. It's no wonder that The Junior Chamber of Commerce designated Lee Roy as one of the 10 most notable young people in America. Lee Roy, a 6-2-inch larger and weighing more than 256 pounds when he played in the college level as an athlete, was captain of his team throughout 1975. In 1993, he became the assistant director of the University of South Florida. In 1988, he was voted into the College Football Hall of Fame. The same year, he also was a part of his way into the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Selmons' parents Lucious as well as Mary Selmon, Jr. were awarded the Distinguished American Award in 1989 from the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation. Henry Bellmon the Governor of Oklahoma presented the award.
